Top 10 Events this August in Vancouver

August is by far my favorite month of the year: The weather is HOT, work days seem just a little more relaxed and there’s plenty of cool events taking place in Vancity. The beauty about attractions this month in Vancouver is that most of them are outdoors. Now that the warm weather is finally here, turn OFF your T.V. and check out these events! (most of which are FREE!)

Here are my TOP 10 Events for the month of August:

Vancouver Celebration of Lights:

When: Aug 3 / Aug 6
Each year, the Celebration of Light event is held in Vancouver which includes 3 countries competing in a pyro-musical fireworks competition which attracts the worlds leading firework designers and an estimated audience of 1.5 million annually. Definately a MUST SEE!

Abbotsford International Airshow:

When: Aug 12 – 14
The Abotsford International Air Show is BC’s most popular air show since 1962. This is usually one of the more exciting events of the year and definitely worth the drive out to Abbotsford.
Cost: Adults $30 and up, Kids 6-12 $12, under 5 is FREE

Chinatown Festival:

When: Aug 6 – 7
Every year thousands of locals and tourists converge for the Chinatown Festival on the streets of Columbia and Keefer in historic Chinatown to experience the biggest multicultural summer celebration in the area.
Cost: FREE

Theater Under the Stars:

When: Till Aug 20
Theatre Under the Stars (TUTS) is a non profit, fam-friendly show that entertains through popular musical theatre shows.
Cost: $29 and up

 

Sunday Afternoon Salsa at Robson Square:

When: Aug 7 – 28
Sunday Afternoon Salsa at Robson Square is an annual series of FREE, outdoor salsa dances held at Robson Square in downtown Vancouver. The dances are open to everyone and you are welcome even if you’ve never danced a day in your life.
Cost: FREE

Enchnated Evenings Concert Series @ Dr. Sun Yat Sen Chinese Garden:

When: Till Sep 2
Enchanted Evenings set stage with 9 summer concerts staged in the Garden’s outdoor and indoor spaces. A different music group, sound and rhythm each week. Wine and nibbles available.
Cost: $18 and up

Queer Film Festival Vancouver:

When: Aug 11 – 21
The Queer Film Festival is a showcase of film, visual art, community dialogue and — at the centre of it all — the Chosen Family Portraits public art installation, bringing queer visibility to the streets of Vancouver.
Cost: $8 and up

PNE Annual Fair:

When: Aug 20 – Sep 5
PNE Fair is back in its 101st year, the PNE Fair has family fun exhibits, rides, attractions and food. The Fair is a big part of Summer in Vancouver!
Cost: $20 and up, FREE under 13

Last Swings of Summer

Bard On The Beach:

When: Till Sep 24
Bard on the Beach is one of Canada’s largest not-for-profit, professional Shakespeare Festivals. Presented in a magnificent setting on the waterfront in Vancouver’s Vanier Park, the Festival offers Shakespeare plays, related dramas, and several special events in two performance tents from June through September.

When: Aug 5 – 14
Each year for 10 days in August, MusicFest brings concert venues throughout Vancouver play host to unforgettable musical experiences that bring enthusiastic and adventurous music lovers together with some of the most talented artists in the world.
