From Sun Run To Mother’s Day: 6 Events Not To Miss This May In Vancouver

This May, Vancouver is offering up a few choice events and festivals to keep you busy till the Summer. And with Spring well underway, there’s lots going on in the city.

I’ve rounded up a few notable events this month has to offer:

Dine Out Vancouver April 28 – May 6

For only a few more days you can catch Dine Out Vancouver’s celebration of BC food and wine which offers a 3 course dinner at over 200 of Vancouver’s hottest restaurants.

For $18, $28 and $38 per person, you can sample some of finest cuisine this city has to offer at the hottest restaurants on in town.

DOXA Documentary Film Festival May 7 – May 16

DOXA Documentary Film Festival is presented by the Documentary Media Society, a Vancouver based non-profit, charitable society devoted to presenting independent and innovative documentaries to Vancouver audiences.

DOXA is Western Canad’s largest documentary film festival which will showcase the year’s best Indy films as well as host workshops, panel discussions and public forums.

All tickets are $10, (Except opening night $15) and can be purchased online or at the door. You can also download the Festival Program Guide for more information on the films and showtimes.

Mothers Day Brunch May 9

Head down to the Pan Pacific Vancouver for the best Mother’s Day brunch event in the city.

The Cafe Pacifica Restaurant has created a unique buffet menu just for this Sunday.

A few new additions to the menu will include:

  • Cognac pork paté
  • Black Angus beef carpaccio
  • Peppered mackerel, smoked trout, salmon gravlax
  • Medallions of pork tenderloin, savoy cabbage, Calvados sauce

It will even offer several stations (omelette, sushi, Asian, carving) to make your meal fresh and customized to order.

Also on hand for live entertainment will be the Gobby Catt Duo, playing the piano and bass.

Vancouver Sun Run May 9

Canada’s biggest community run will take place on Sunday at 9am.

Each year, over 50,000 runners pound 10km on the streets for fitness, fun and to show their community spirit. Racers begin on Georgia Street (exact start points are based on estimated finish time) and finish on Pacific Boulevard near the Cambie Street Bridge. Race times will also be recorded as runners will have their own race chip.

If you think 10km is a bit too much, you could try the Shaw 2.5k Mini Sun Run.

Participants can still register online or by fax until May 5 till midnight. After May 5 you can only register IN PERSON on May 6, 7 and 8 at the Sun Run Fair @ Concord Place.

There will be no registration on race day.

Vancouver International Children’s Festival May 17 – May 24

This one’s for the kids! A world-renowned festival of performing arts for young audiences, the Vancouver International Children’s Festival will educate and entertain young audiences of all ages.

For one full week, Vanier Park will come alive with theater, music, acrobatics, story telling, dance, puppetry and more for families and kids.

Eat! Vancouver May 28 – May 30

EAT! Vancouver Food and Cooking Festival is the city’s premier food exhibition.

Throughout the weekend you can sample some of the most exotic and diverse cuisines from all over the world at the new Vancouver Convention Center.

Here you can find celebrity chefs, popular local restaurants, wineries, food and beverage manufacturers and many others from the culinary world who share a passion for food.
