227 Metre Aerial Sculpture Coming Soon

What is longer than the length of two football fields, designed by famous international artist Janet Echelman and soon to be arriving in Vancouver? A 227 metre (745 foot) aerial sculpture that will be suspended outside the Vancouver Convention Centre at Vancouver’s Waterfront, located within walking distance of the Pan Pacific Vancouver.

This is Echelman’s biggest project ever, measuring three times the length of her largest sculptures to this date. The piece is so large that it required clearance from the Provincial Government and Federal Aviation.

Not so coincidentally, the sculpture will arrive just in time for the 30th annual TED conference at the Vancouver Convention Centre which Echelman will be speaking at. You can learn more about the TED Conference in our previous article, “7 events in Vancouver you don’t want to miss this March“.

You can learn more about Echelman’s work by visiting her website. You may also recognize her piece, “Water Sky Garden”, which premiered at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Richmond.
